Hearts and Hands
The mission of Harleston Hearts & Hands is to bring together the people of Harleston Village to support and uplift the local community.
Through collaborative partnerships with neighborhood nonprofits, the group connects willing volunteers with specific opportunities to serve, ensuring that their collective efforts meet the real-time needs of those in the area.

Quarterly Fisher House dinners
HVA Hearts & Hands makes dinner for the guests at the Fisher House every quarter — the next date is announced in the newsletter and on the Events page. Volunteer to cook, or donate toward groceries. There are two ways to help:

About
The Fisher House
The Fisher House provides temporary lodging, meals, transportation, and more at no cost — allowing Veteran families to stay close together during medical treatment and focus on healing. Fisher Houses encourage a sense of community while giving private respite to families of Veterans receiving care at the VA hospital.
The Fisher House relies on volunteers to make evening meals that ease daily life for guests.

A home-cooked meal at Fisher House
The Hearts & Hands Committee prepared and served a home-cooked meal for military families staying at the Fisher House on Wentworth Street. Thank you to the volunteers who cooked and everyone who donated toward groceries.

Our first Fisher House dinner
On Monday, April 13, a group of neighbors representing Harleston Village Association Hearts & Hands made dinner for the guests at the Fisher House on Wentworth Street.
The group had a fun time preparing a meal of gluten-free meatloaf, zucchini risotto, glazed carrots, and brownies. Everyone — including the young helpers — pitched in cutting, stirring, cooking, and cleaning up a meal for 30 people. As an added bonus, it was a great way to meet and get to know neighbors.
Everyone felt it was such a success that the HVA Hearts & Hands team will be looking for volunteers each quarter.
